Business Process Design
...............................................................................................

In the vast majority of projects, part of the consultancy's implementation will be changes to the existing business processes. In some projects, this may be the entire solution - removing inefficiencies from the previous way of working. In others, it may be a case of identifying which processes can be sent offshore or are replaced by the implementation of a technical solution.

Either way, business process design and rework is a key consultant tool.

In a first role it is highly unlikely you will be responsible for redesigning the processes yourself, but you will often be asked to identify the 'As-Is' process (what currently exists) through discussions with client's employees. You may also have to discuss the proposed 'To-Be' processes with them, communicating the changes and determining whether they think the solution makes sense.

Pros

  • Interaction with the client
  • Useful and transferable business skill
  • Potential for innovative thinking

Cons

  • Very time consuming
  • Subject to last-minute alterations
  • Long time to focus on minutiae
