Requirements Gathering

It is a fact repeated again and again in management consultancy that the sooner you make mistakes, the better. Mistakes in the first stages of the project, if caught, cost far less money and time to fix. So in theory, the pressure should be off requirements gathering a little.
Usually happening very near the start of the project, this is the process by which the consultants learn exactly what the client wants from their solution. This means lots of meetings, discussions and documentation, and new joiners are often involved in this process.
However, don't think you can get away with a slack job. If the requirements gathering is poor, no matter how well the solution fits them the client will not be happy. And heads will roll...
